Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the music industry — and not always in a good way.
Recently, Sony Music Entertainment announced that it had removed over 135,000 AI-generated songs from streaming platforms.
These tracks were created using generative AI tools that mimic the voices and styles of real artists.
In many cases, the songs were uploaded to platforms while falsely claiming to feature popular musicians. Some even used AI models trained directly on artists’ vocal recordings.
Record labels say the practice raises serious concerns about:
• identity theft
• copyright infringement
• artist impersonation
• streaming fraud
The situation has become so widespread that major labels are now developing detection tools specifically designed to identify AI-generated music.
For the music industry, this battle is only beginning.
And as AI technology improves, distinguishing between real artists and synthetic voices may become increasingly difficult.
